AIM will shut down after 20 years - The Verge

Goodnight little yellow guy. This was my primary chat program in high school, it felt like everyone at Appleby had an AIM handle (I do not remember my handle, I'm sure it was stupid and embarrassing). The app had some great features and was even interoperable with 3rd party clients for awhile.

Leaked Document Shows Ontario Government Is Ignoring Its Own Advice On Weed - VICE

"document obtained by VICE shows the Ontario government's framework to sell legal weed contradicts what its own Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services is saying about enforcement and the black market."

INCREDIBLE DOOM - a new comic series about teens on the net in the 90s

INCREDIBLE DOOM - a new comic series about teens on the net in the 90s. I think I'm really going to like this series.

"When a bug in the system created “true black” as a hue it [...] led to mass murder" via @raphkoster

I never played Ultima Online but I love reading about it. Purely for things like, "When a bug in the system created “true black” as a hue (a palette with only #000000 black in it) it instantly became a highly coveted color that led to mass murder and economic mayhem."

An Industry Divided: How Bell Broke With the Telecom Sector on Copyright - Michael Geist

shit like this is why I avoid giving Bell money as much as possible.

I'm not as much of a typography nerd but this Marvin font evokes feelings of old sci-fi while still being modern

I'm not as much of a typography nerd as I used to be but this Marvin Visions font evokes feelings of art deco and old sci-fi covers while still being modern.

Because I have zero self control I picked up #Morphite last night for Xbone. It's pretty damn good so far.

Because I have zero self control I picked up Morphite last night for Xbone. It's pretty damn good so far. Was expecting it to be released on Android as most Crescent Moon releases are but it wasn't for some reason.

Third Eye Data: TV News Archive chyrons - Real time tracking of the lower third text in TV news

Real time tracking of text in TV news chyrons (the lower third of the screen). Hosting projects like this is why I'm more than happy to give the Archive.org money every month.

'Columbine destroyed my entire career': Marilyn Manson on the perils of being the lord of darkness

Great article. This new album is going to be another great one I think.

Toronto man 'angry' after learning his $8,100 master's degree that required no exams or academic work is fake

"Erwin Sniedzins doesn't trust traditional universities.

So when the Toronto business management consultant found one offering a master's degree requiring no studying, exams, or academic work — for just $8,100 — Sniedzins thought it was a school sharing his unconventional approach to education."

LOL. What a dumbass.

"I don't necessarily like to pay $30,000 to get a master's when I feel I already have the knowledge,"

Feelings are the best way to confirm that you know a thing. Who needs a test?

Why Scar is the hero of the Lion King

"Obviously there’s a Hereditary Monarchy in place, but then you’ve got Rafiki who is essentially kung-fu Rasputin, pushing a theocracy with all this ‘Circle of Life’ stuff, which the Lions are just SUPER INTO because they’re at the top of the food chain anyway so that’s just a nice little bit of religious dogma they’ve laid into the lion constitution in order to oppress the other species."

Ontario’s pot-store plan is legitimate – and pathetic - editorial from @picardonhealth

"Instead of raiding dispensaries – of which there are at least 100 in Toronto alone – and prosecuting the poor schmoes who work there (remember, one of the main purposes of legalization is to end pointless criminalization), government should be working to regulate these stores. They should also be learning from them, because they offer decent customer service and employ some impressive pot sommeliers. Under the current plan, dispensaries' customers are more likely to return to the black market than shop at granny's state-run Pot Store."

Video Game Shopkeeper Starting To Get Suspicious After Selling 800 Bombs To Player

lol playing through Skyrim (for like the 10th time) on Xbone and I'm pretty sure most of the shopkeepers are suspicious of my character

the new Marilyn Manson single is pretty good - WE KNOW WHERE YOU FUCKING LIVE

the new Marilyn Manson single is pretty good. I hope this means a new album is soon. Not that I'm bored of Pale Emperor, that was his greatest work in years

PewDiePie Doesn't Deserve a Pass For Using the N-Word Because He Was Angry - Waypoint

Good take on the whole PewDiePie shit going on. I really identified with the bit about training yourself to stop saying something and just how difficult it can be.  I also have had to make a concerted effort to remove certain words from my lexicon, words I used privately while playing video games with friends.

Equifax waited 5 weeks to admit it had doxed 44% of America, did nothing to help us while its execs sold stock

"the company allowed its top execs to sell millions of dollars' worth of stock in the company, while preparing a risibly defective and ineffective website that provides no useful information to the people whom Equifax has put in grave financial and personal danger through their recklessness."

Step by step, Americans are sacrificing the right to walk | Aeon Essays

Watch out, this is a depressing read.

"For the crime of walking three tired, hungry children home in the most efficient way possible, Nelson faced more jail time than the man who had killed her son."

UX Meets MBA: What Happens When A Designer Goes To Business School

this is fascinating to me, I've toyed with the idea of attending business school

The Women Who Rode Miles on Horseback to Deliver Library Books - Atlas Obscura

"the book women served as touchstones for these communities. They tried to fill book requests, sometimes stopped to read to those who couldn’t, and helped nurture local pride. As one recipient said, “Them books you brought us has saved our lives.”
